Northern Stages
In 2010 I produced Northern Stages which showcased the work of 40 artists from around the world and created a conversation about northernness, to celebrate Northern Stage’s 40th birthday.
This international collection of artists had very different connections to the idea of being northern - some were from the North of their country or continent, or their work explored northernness in an engaging or unexpected way.
The project included theatre makers, writers, photographers, painters and musicians. Work was presented both within the building and on online, allowing for new connections and collaborations.
The programme contained work from artists including Third Angel, Robert Lepage, Peter Brook, Hugh Hughes, and Roger Bernat. We also commissioned a data visualisation, which captured people’s opinions and feelings about the North.
